Building an After-School FCA Program at Hillside School in the Tesoro Viejo Community

Investing in Students Beyond the School Day

The hours immediately after school are some of the most influential in a student's life. An after-school Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) program at Hillside School would provide a safe, encouraging environment where students can build friendships, develop leadership skills, grow in character, and explore their faith through age-appropriate activities.

As the Tesoro Viejo community continues to grow with young families, there is an incredible opportunity to provide a program that complements the school's educational mission while strengthening the entire community through positive relationships and mentorship.

A Community Partnership

The success of an after-school FCA program is built on collaboration. This initiative would be a partnership between Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Hillside School, New Covenant Church Madera, parents, and community volunteers who share a commitment to investing in the next generation.

New Covenant Church Madera would serve as a valued ministry partner by helping provide caring adult volunteers, mentors, family support, and opportunities for community engagement. Together, FCA and New Covenant Church desire to serve the students and families of Tesoro Viejo by creating a welcoming environment where every child feels known, encouraged, and valued.

Why FCA?

For more than 70 years, Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been developing leaders through four core values:

  • Integrity – Living with honesty and Christ-like character.
  • Serving – Putting others before ourselves.
  • Teamwork – Building unity and encouraging one another.
  • Excellence – Giving our very best in everything we do.

Although FCA began as a ministry to coaches and athletes, today's programs serve all students through leadership development, mentoring, service projects, outdoor activities, and character-building experiences.

Benefits for Hillside School

An FCA After-School Program would:

  • Provide a safe, structured, and positive environment after school.
  • Promote respect, kindness, responsibility, and servant leadership.
  • Build stronger friendships and a healthier campus culture.
  • Connect students with positive adult role models and mentors.
  • Encourage physical activity through games and recreation.
  • Strengthen relationships between the school, families, churches, and the Tesoro Viejo community.
  • Help students develop confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.

Program Components

Weekly gatherings could include:

  • Homework assistance and study time
  • Leadership and character development
  • Sports, recreation, and team-building activities
  • Age-appropriate Bible discussion and life application
  • Community service opportunities
  • Guest speakers from education, athletics, business, and public service
  • Family nights and community celebrations

Each meeting would be designed to help students grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Serving the Tesoro Viejo Community

Tesoro Viejo was designed to be a vibrant, family-centered community where neighbors know one another and families thrive. An FCA After-School Program reflects that vision by bringing together schools, families, churches, and community leaders to invest in the lives of local students.

Through the partnership of Hillside School, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and New Covenant Church Madera, students will have consistent encouragement, meaningful mentorship, and opportunities to discover their purpose while developing strong values that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Our Vision

Our vision is to establish a thriving after-school FCA program that develops student leaders, strengthens families, and serves the Tesoro Viejo community through positive relationships, servant leadership, and faith-based character development.

Together, Hillside School, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and New Covenant Church Madera can help raise a generation of young leaders who positively influence their school, their families, and the Tesoro Viejo community for years to come.
